Pacific storms, coastal reef create Mavericks' 60-foot surf waves
An earthquake centered in eastern Tennessee also was felt in three other states. The U.S. Geological Survey website says the epicenter of the magnitude 3.0 earthquake early Sunday was southeast of Mascot. It also was felt in parts of Georgia, Kentucky and North Carolina. No injuries or damage are reported. It's the second earthquake in eastern Tennessee in the past week. A magnitude 4.4 earthquake on Wednesday was centered near Decatur.
Pacific storms bringing 60 miles-per-hour winds, up to 30 foot-high waves, and continuous rain are expected to last through Wednesday.
Large storms and cold air are likely to take a break over much of the nation during much of next week ahead of the Christmas holiday.

A strong earthquake has struck Indonesia's easternmost province of Papua, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, Sunday's magnitude 6.1 quake had a depth of 61 kilometers (38 miles).
All evacuation orders have been lifted in Paradise more than a month after a devastating wildfire that wiped out the Northern California town. The fire that broke out Nov. 8 killed at least 86 people and destroyed 14,000 homes in Paradise and nearby communities in the Sierra Nevada foothills. A report on firefighter injuries in a deadly Northern California wildfire details the harrowing conditions they faced and a few close calls with death. The report released Thursday by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said the Camp Fire overtook three firefighters working to stop the blaze Nov. 8. It says two inmate firefighters were burned when they tried to escape the flames and ran into barbed-wire fences. A fire captain also was burned.

Officials in North Carolina have revised downward the death toll related to this week's severe weather. The three deaths reported initially included an 82-year-old woman in Haywood County whose death was reported by state officials as storm-related. A news release from the governor's office Wednesday said a review of the woman's death led officials to remove it from the count, dropping the death toll to two.
